From market stalls and backyard salons to tailoring businesses and online shops, women in the informal sector are powering communities every single day.
But despite their efforts, many of these women face steep barriers:
- Lack of collateral required by traditional banks
- Limited access to financial literacy support
- Persistent gender bias in lending
- Few platforms offering mentorship or digital tools
At Penda Capital, we’ve seen this reality up close — and we’ve also seen the possibilities. That’s why we’re leading a new initiative to change the narrative.
In partnership with Nemani Microcredit — a bold, youth-led microfinance initiative based in Italy and Zimba Women, our trusted ally in digital empowerment and mentorship , we’re scaling our efforts to empower over 2,000 women entrepreneurs across Uganda over the next four years.
That’s where Penda Capital stepped in.
As an impact finance firm rooted in Uganda, we’re bringing this partnership to life by:
- Designing loan products that match women’s realities
- Delivering financial literacy and business training
- Providing access to mobile-based digital tools for business tracking and planning
- Building a network of mentors and champions to walk with women throughout their journey
With Zimba Women leading digital mentorship and community engagement, and Nemani supporting with catalytic funding and global visibility, we’re excited to offer a full-circle programme that meets women where they are — and helps them grow.
